Sue North

Sue North joined Rose & Kindel in January of 2009, after serving in a variety of public policy positions, primarily in the Legislature, but also in related activities over the past 30 years.
She most recently served as the Chief Consultant to the Senate Human Services Committee, while concurrently serving as the Executive Director of the Joint Legislative Blue Ribbon Commission on Autism.

She was formerly “loaned” by the Senate to the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine to assist them in their Government Affairs work, and has served as Chief of Staff to two Senators, Elaine Alquist (Senate Health Committee Chair) and John Vasconcellos (Senate Education Committee Chair), who retired in 2004.
North also worked in the State Assembly where, for three years with the Ways and Means Committee, she managed the budgets of the departments within the Health and Welfare Agency, and then staffed the Joint Legislative Audit Committee and the Select Committee on Mental Health.
She took a two year leave of absence from the Legislature during the 1990’s to serve as Project Director for the California Citizens’ Budget Commission with the Center for Governmental Studies in Los Angeles.
From 1988 to 1994, North represented psychiatrists, pediatricians, and private preschool owners, among others, as the proprieter of her own lobbying firm, The Strategy Center.
She also held positions with San Francisco Mayors Moscone and Alioto where she worked on a wide range of issues, helped establish priorities for federal revenue sharing funds and did budget analyses. During this time she worked on a system to track federal funds coming to the city as well as assisted the Mayor in establishing citywide priorities for federal revenue sharing funds which resulted in major infrastructure, transportation equipment purchases and a park beautification program.
North brings a thorough understanding of intergovernmental fiscal and policy relationships, the entire range of service systems and programs funded by government and a keen understanding of state and local politics in California.
